This is a piece designed as an introduction to the topic of Globalization, created for those participating in the border immersion (hosted by Cristo Rey). The program is set on the El Paso – Juarez border. During the immersion, participants learn more about a border issues from SMEs.
- not spelling everything out for your audience (give them enough to draw the conclusion themselves)
- tension and unresolved endings can be motivating, engaging
- tension in visual imagery (produces emotion)
- using visual metaphors (they connect a known realm to unknown, powerful)
I am intrigued by the use of metaphors in learning. Metaphors provide a mental hook. I would love to learn more about creating visual metaphors. Though, I’m not sure how one develops a talent for creating metaphors. I take no credit for the two metaphors used in my slide show. They are both used by a variety of author’s I’ve read.
