Technical Writing

Technical writing projects do not scare me! I genuinely like the challenge of taking an undocumented process, asking lots of questions, and producing an accurate, logically sequenced and clear document that others can follow.  I love the compliments I get on these types of documents. Without sharing anything proprietary, the types of technical writings projects I’ve tackled include: Process Definition Documents Layperson Guides to Process & Best Practices Performance Supports (the beloved Job Aid)

Web Basics

Working with a church in El Paso, Texas, I created an educational web site to support their border immersion program. I started by inventorying the existing educational content, none of which was online. Then, I participated in the immersion program myself, going to the border for a week. While there I interviewed participants on how effective the existing materials was and where the program’s educational content could improve. Based on participant feedback and gaps in existing material, I created a web site with content that gave a conceptual overview and mental models to use for the in-depth discussions that would occur while on the border. Print Design

I love finding ways to clearly present and lay out data.  I’m also a very textual person who loves reading and words.  The sample here was created to accompany a multimedia presentation exploring why people immigrate.  Educationally, the written piece adds depth to material in the presentation by providing some historical context for discussions on immigration.

Pre-Quiz A pre-quiz is a good way to make people aware of gaps in their knowledge.  With a topic such as immigration personal opinions are likely to be formed already.  A quiz can bring the topic…

Presentation Design

“Globalization, Competing Metaphors”- This presentation was designed as an introduction to the topic of Globalization.  The presentation was given to individuals participating in a border immersion trip along the El Paso – Juarez border. I used two contrasting metaphors to create competing mental models for individuals to wrestle with during their immersion experience. Globalization and the Border I was excited to see this post on Duarte’s website not long after I finished this presentation. In the post Duarte touches on the benefits to be gained from ….. not spelling everything out for your audience (give them enough to draw the conclusion themselves) tension and unresolved endings can be motivating, engaging tension in visual imagery (produces…
